Brian Friedland was born near Atlanta, Georgia but spent his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland where his interest in art began. Classically trained in a mix of pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, and oils, he showed promise at an early age. Unfortunately soon after, he became a teenager and, well, other interests took precedent for the next 30 years.
A family and several careers later, painting found him again, this time, in the form of watercolor. Painting was his respite from his hectic life working as a physical therapist in a busy hospital and juggling his children’s many activities (among other things).
And speaking of juggling, Brian also dabbled in the entertainment business. (No, it’s not what you’re thinking.) He performed as a stilt walker, balloon sculptor and juggler. Yes, it was quite confusing to his young children, as his 2 year old once stated: “I want to be a physical therapist so I can blow balloons.”
Which brings us to today… Brian, together with his family, decided to quit their good, stable jobs, sell their beautiful house, and move to Norway. Why? Well, if you haven’t figured it out by now, Brian is certifiably crazy. And he’s married to an equally crazy Norwegian woman so she wasn’t about to stop him.
Finding a real job when you speak Norwegian as well as a toddler isn’t the easiest thing to do, so what do you do in the meantime? You make friends with a crazy Australian man who pesters you to start a “painting while drinking” kind of business because you were dumb enough to mention you were thinking about it. So combining Brian’s interest in painting with his experience as an entertainer, “Uncork Your Palette” was born.
And there it is in a nutshell. If you want to find out more, you’ll have to attend one of his “Uncork Your Palette” events.
